<<Parenthetical
aside>>
A lady friend of mine told me she had this shelf she
bought that you put together (from Target or Wal-Mart or "some damn
place" as my dad would say). I told her I would put it together for her
(because she said she's no good at stuff like that). Her ex-husband told her
that she needed to learn to do things for herself, since she's a single woman
now. I thought he must have some serious stones to say that (and mean it).
I had to stress that there would be no obligation for
putting the shelf together. One snowy night in the winter, we met for drinks
and she told me she had just come from shoveling snow. I offered to come over
and shovel that night so she could get up the steep hill that is her
driveway. She declined on the grounds that I might assume there was some
obligation on her part.
I guess in some strange economy there are guys who do things
like that and then expect sex. It should be so easy - I'd go out and buy a
snow plow and a new toolbox.
